Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield offers free community self-defense classes in Fort Smith and Little Rock

Registration is under way for free community self-defense classes. On May 20 at 9 a.m., Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield will host training in Krav Maga at its ArkansasBlue Welcome Centers at 416 S. University in Little Rock and at 3501 Old Greenwood Road in Fort Smith.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone in these communities to learn valuable techniques to keep themselves and their loved ones safe in an unexpected situation,” said Kristen Lippencott, Arkansas Blue Cross manager of Well-being and Health Solution Strategies. “Physical safety and peace of mind are vital to our overall well-being.”

Gallup scientists agree. In a 2010 report, they identified five elements of well-being.

  • Career well-being
  • Social well-being
  • Physical well-being
  • Community well-being
  • Financial well-being

“The classes are not only informative, they are a lot of fun and a great way to start your day with a little bit of physical activity,” Lippencott added.

Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art developed for the Israeli armed forces. It focuses on real-world situations and efficiency. The classes will teach participants how to improve their situational awareness as well as basic self-defense techniques for the real world.
