The prior authorization program for outpatient diagnostic imaging services became
effective Sept. 1, 2006. Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield utilizes National Imaging
Associates (NIA) to provide these prior authorization services. NIA is an independent
company that operates separately from Arkansas Blue Cross.
All providers should have received the following letter and reference guide in early
December 2005. This program applies to all Arkansas Blue Cross individual and group
members except members of Medi-Pak, AR Health (where Medicare is primary), and the
Federal Employee Program.
