LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 19, 2013) — ArkansasBlue, Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s health insurance store, is now open in Pine Bluff. Located across the street from Walmart on Highway 63, the store will sell health and dental insurance to individuals and families. Arkansas Blue Cross members also are welcome to visit the store when they have questions about their health or dental coverage.

"The new health care law becomes fully effective in 2014 and will mean big changes for Arkansans. Many people will be able to qualify for free or very low-cost health insurance," said Karen Raley, vice president of Communications. "Our staff at Arkansas Blue is prepared to help our customers understand the new law and choose the most affordable health plan available." Arkansas Blue is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. The official grand opening is planned for June 26.

"We want to make it as easy and convenient as possible for people to do business with us," said Dwayne Pierce, regional executive with responsibility for Arkansas Blue Cross operations in southeast Arkansas, which includes the new store. "Our customers told us they want options for discussing their health insurance choices face-to-face, and we listened."

Arkansas Blue Cross is one of a growing number of Blue plans throughout the country opening retail locations. The Pine Bluff store is the second Arkansas Blue store opened by Arkansas Blue Cross. The original ArkansasBlue is located in West Little Rock in the Shackleford Crossing Shopping Center.

Founded in 1948, Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, an Independent Licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, is the largest health insurer in Arkansas. Arkansas Blue Cross and its affiliates have more than 2,700 employees. If combined, the 38 independent, locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans collectively provide health care coverage for 93 million Americans.
