Little Rock, Ark. (November 7, 2012) — P. Allen Smith, award-winning designer, gardening and lifestyle expert, and SilverSneakers will be helping Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield promote healthy holiday eating and exercise through a free event from 9 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, November 10, at the ArkansasBlue insurance store located at the Shackleford Crossings shopping center in Little Rock.
At the event, Smith will demonstrate how to make a healthy seasonal salad. He also will make a holiday party drink and discuss the health benefits found in blueberries and pomegranate juices. Tasting samples will be provided to the audience.
Allen also will demonstrate how to make a pumpkin centerpiece that you can eat! While making the centerpiece, which he plans to award to one lucky audience member, he will explain how to use the pumpkin pulp and toasted pumpkin seeds as a healthy snack.
Also featured at the event will be SilverSneakers® Fitness Program instructors challenging participants to test and improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance. They will demonstrate proper stretching and strengthening techniques to help ease the holiday stress.
“Healthy Holidays at ArkansasBlue will be a great party for people and a chance for people to learn a little about good nutrition, get some fun gifts and get in a workout all in one stop,” said Sara Harris, team lead at ArkansasBlue. “We are so excited to have Allen coming to meet our members and neighbors.”
Guests may register to win prizes from Arkansas Blue Cross, including two of Smith’s books (autographed), a $100 Kroger gift card, a $50 Cracker Barrel gift card and a $50 Burge’s gift card. Plus, Smith’s recipes and kitchen cutting mats will be given away while supplies last.
Wordsworth Books will be on site for guests who would like to purchase Smith’s gardening or cook books just in time for gift-giving. Following Smith’s demonstrations, he will sign books for guests.
“This is a great way to get your holiday season stirring,” said Harris. “Everyone is invited to join us for our Healthy Holidays event.”
