Little Rock, Ark. (August 15, 2012) — Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield invites moms and kids to “Pack’n It In — Lunchbox Prep” with Faith Anaya of Kids Cook! from 2 - 4 p.m., Saturday, August 18, at ArkansasBlue, located in the Shackleford Crossings shopping center.

“Pack’n It In — Lunchbox Prep” is a fun interactive event for moms and school-age kids to engage in healthy eating. Faith Anaya from Kids Cook! will demonstrate two easy, economical and healthy food preparations perfect for packing a healthy lunchbox. She will discuss the importance of healthy eating and encourage kids to try new foods. Parents will be invited to participate in a nutrition label exercise designed to teach them about what kinds foods they are offering their children.

“We are excited to encourage families to get a healthy head-start this fall by teaching them importance of providing kids with the nutrition they need to power through a long school day,” said Sara Harris, ArkansasBlue team lead. “Getting kids to eat healthy can sometimes be challenging and, at Arkansas Blue Cross, we want to encourage healthy eating at a young age. Food preferences are developed early in life, so offering a variety of foods can help kids develop a taste for the ‘right’ kinds of foods; ones that will help them maintain a healthy lifestyle when they are adults. But healthy eating starts with the parent. Parents need to be role models and eat healthy, too. Inviting kids in the kitchen and letting them help prepare meals and help pack school lunches can teach kids to make smart decisions about the foods they want to eat.”

“Pack’n It In — Lunchbox Prep” activities are free and will be held from 2- 4 p.m. (demonstrations at 2 and 3 p.m.); free lunchboxes, healthy recipes and snacks are available while supplies last.
