Little Rock, Ark. (August 29, 2012) — Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield invites its members to make memories with their grandchildren at Grandparent’s Day at the Museum of Discovery. If you carry an Arkansas Blue Cross, Health Advantage or BlueAdvantage Administrators of Arkansas health plan ID card, you can show it at the door of the Museum on Sunday, Sept. 9, and enjoy free admission to the Museum and family-friendly activities from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Grandparent’s Day celebration is an event designed for grandparents and grand- children. Grandparents and grandkids can have their picture taken on location in a photobooth then decorate a keepsake picture frame. SilverSneakers® Fitness Program instructors also will be on hand challenging grandparents and grandkids to test and improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance. Afterwards, families can rest and relax in the AETN Media Room for storytime with a live storyteller.

In the Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield Amazing You Gallery, kids and grandparents can not only explore, but participate in a “Grandparent’s Day” activity focused on “what makes you tick.” Families can enjoy a healthy snack in the GigaBite room, register for door prizes, and have their picture made with BlueAnn Ewe, Arkansas Blue Cross’ health ambassador.

“At Arkansas Blue Cross, we know it is important to begin educating kids on good health habits early,” said Karen Raley, vice president of Communications. “Grandparent’s Day is an opportunity for our members to nurture the grandparent-grandchild relationship by making memories together and learning about the importance of keeping their bodies functioning properly at all ages. Helping families stay healthy is part of our mission and this event is a fun, interactive way to learn about how building healthy habits into your lifestyle helps keep you ‘amazing.’ Plus, as a grandparent myself, I love an excuse to spend the day with my precious granddaughter.”

“Health science is an important component to the Museum, as it is one of our permanent galleries,” said Nan Selz, executive director for the Museum of Discovery. “We invite visitors to discover how the human body works and how choices for a healthy, active lifestyle keep their bodies running better, longer,” she added.

Members simply show their health plan ID card (Arkansas Blue Cross, Health Advantage or BlueAdvantage) at the door of the Museum of Discovery, sign in and enjoy free admission to the Museum on September 9. A health plan ID card from Arkansas Blue Cross, Health Advantage or BlueAdvantage is needed for each adult to receive free admission.

Grandparent’s Day activities are free and will be held from 1 until 4 p.m.; crafts and snacks are available while supplies last. Door prizes will be awarded at the end of the day; registrants do not need to be present to win.
