Restrictions on Age Rating

At Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, we want to provide you with the best health care coverage available at prices you can afford. That's why we think you need to be aware that some changes under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) could increase the cost of health care coverage for people who buy policies for themselves and their families. New restrictions on how policies can be rated by age could result in a big increase in health care costs for people in their 20s, 30s and early 40s. Younger, healthier people may decide they would rather pay the penalty rather than pay for insurance they can't afford. When this happens, costs go up for everyone, young and old. To get a better understanding of how this may happen you can review the following information developed by America's Health Insurance Plans, the national trade association representing the health insurance industry.
