State and federal laws guarantee that for a period of six months from the date you are enrolled in Medicare Part B and aged 65 or older, you have a right to buy the Medicare supplement policy of your choice — regardless of any health problems you may have. Your open enrollment period begins with the first day of your birth month and continues for six months. If your birthday falls on the first day of the month, your Medicare coverage will begin the first day of the previous month while you are 64. Your open enrollment period also will begin at that time.
Health questions must be answered if you apply for Medicare supplement coverage any time other than during your open enrollment period. You will be subject to medical underwriting if you are not in your open enrollment period when you apply for coverage and may not be accepted for coverage.
