LASIK and Contact Lens Discounts
Health plan members may benefit from discounts on LASIK vision correction services
and mail-order contact lenses through the LASIK Affinity Program. We offer our members
this program through TruVision, a national organization that contracts with experienced
ophthalmologists to provide discounts on LASIK surgery and other vision services.
There is no additional premium cost to members for this program.
What Is LASIK?
LASIK is a surgical procedure to correct vision problems, such as nearsightedness
(myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. Laser vision correction has
been used since the 1980s to successfully correct nearsightedness and astigmatism.
LASIK is the acronym for laser in situ keratomileusis, sometimes referred
to as laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis. The procedure involves use of
a laser to reshape the cornea without invading the adjacent cell layers. In situ
is Greek for in the natural or normal place. Medically, in situ means
confined to the site of origin without invasion of neighboring tissues. Kerato
is the Greek word for cornea, and mileusis means to shape.
What Is My Cost?
The discounted cost of the LASIK services, including a pre-operative vision exam,
the surgery itself and post-operative care, is $895 per eye. Financing is available
to patients for 100 percent of the cost upon approved credit. A fully refundable
deposit is required when booking your procedure.
How Do I Find a Provider?
Members may call 1-877-763-2020 toll free to locate a participating provider. Currently,
providers are located in Little Rock, Texarkana, Springdale, Fort Smith, Pine Bluff
and Memphis. TruVision contracts with board-certified ophthalmologists using only
FDA-approved equipment.
Is LASIK Right for Me?
LASIK offers quick visual recovery, low risk of discomfort after surgery, low risk
of infection and effective treatment for a wide range of vision deficiencies. LASIK,
however, does not correct all vision deficiencies. Since not everyone is a candidate
for LASIK surgery, a series of pre-operative screening questions and a physician
examination will determine who is eligible for treatment. Members may call 1-877-763-2020
and be screened to determine initial eligibility.
How Do I Obtain a Discount on Contacts?
TruVision also offers contact lenses. Contact lens wearers may order contacts through
a toll-free number, 1-877-763-2020, or TruVision's Web site,
www.truvision.com, and have them shipped free of charge directly to their
home.
