Arkansans Invited to Fall into Fitness with Food Trucks and Fun, Celebrating 20 Years of the Blue & You Fitness Challenge

The Blue & You Fitness Challenge is turning 20! For two decades, participants have been teaming up and facing off in the fun, friendly competition designed to get them moving. To celebrate, Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the Arkansas Department of Health and the Arkansas Department of Human Services will host Fall into Fitness, marking the opening of 2023 group registration!

On Thursday, September 29 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., a DJ will play some of your favorite tunes while food trucks serve tasty meals and treats outside the Arkansas Blue Cross building at 601 S. Gaines Street in Little Rock. Everyone is invited and encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to be donated to the Arkansas Foodbank.

I am thrilled that we are able to host this event for our community, as well as past and future participants, said Kristen Lippencott, Fitness Challenge administrator and Arkansas Blue Cross manager of health and wellbeing. Daylilies are the flower associated with twentieth anniversaries because of their strong and playful nature, which is exactly what the Fitness Challenge is all about - building community, having fun, and focusing on exercise and daily habits to build a strong foundation for both mental and physical health.

Whether you like to hit the gym, enjoy a quiet walk or dance the night away with friends, physical activity improves your physical, emotional and behavioral health. To join the Challenge, sign your team up at blueandyoufitnesschallenge-ark.com. Then beginning February 1, 2023, start recruiting people to join your team. Participation is easy. Download the free Wellable app. From March 1 – May 31, log your steps or sync your smart watch to log your activity automatically. You can also earn points for your team by logging healthy behaviors, like drinking water, or by participating in informative webinars focused on improving your health.

We look forward to the Blue and You Fitness Challenge every year, and we are excited to kick off the 20th anniversary of the Challenge with this fun event, said Renee Mallory, Interim Arkansas Secretary of Health. I hope to see you all at the event, and I’m hoping for record numbers of participation in the Challenge for its 20th year!

The Blue & You Competition is a wonderful way to encourage participants to stay active, and it’s inspiring to see how many Arkansas Department of Human Services employees take part each year, Arkansas Department of Human Services Secretary Cindy Gillespie said. We are always excited to compete, and we’re looking forward to both celebrating the 20th anniversary and preparing for the 2023 competition with this fun Fall into Fitness event.

Last year, 4,023 people finished the three-month Challenge, earning more than 109 million points for counting their steps and other activities. They also completed 239,504 healthy behaviors.

About the Blue & You Fitness Challenge

The Blue & You Fitness Challenge is a free three-month contest in which participants are encouraged to exercise, make healthy choices and log those activities to earn points. The Challenge is held from March 1 through May 31. Companies and organizations participate in the event as part of their wellness programs, while friends and family use the contest to focus on health goals, infuse new energy into their routines, remain connected and have fun! Points gained from logging activity leads to contest recognition and rewards, but the best bonuses are better health and fitness. The Challenge was founded in 2004 and is hosted by Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the Arkansas Department of Health and the Arkansas Department of Human Services.
