Job Summary
The Marketing Design Specialist serves as a designer for collateral to support enterprise large and small group marketing, sales and service functions. The position also serves as a staff designer and contributor to collateral supporting national accounts, member communications, individual business, retail communications, agent/broker communications, internal communications, and publication design as needed.

Nature & Scope
The Marketing Design Specialist reports to the Manager of Advertising, Public Relations and Market Support, who in turn reports to the Vice President of Communications and Product Development.

The position will assist with the graphic design of materials supporting advertising, communications, public relations and community integration activities as assigned.

The position is responsible for creatively conceptualizing and graphically communicating messages through multi-media platforms.

The position is responsible for special design projects (as assigned) in support of other enterprise divisions.

The incumbent works closely with the Marketing Communications Coordinator and the Communications and Product Development staff to ensure a thorough understanding of the products and services to be promoted through graphic design.

The incumbent has responsibility for translating into visual concepts the key messages to be communicated regarding group products and services and for communicating those messages clearly to defined audiences.
The incumbent is responsible for keeping all marketing materials related to products and services up to date and accurate from a graphics perspective.

The incumbent serves as a designer and contributor to the organization's publications as needed as well as other communication projects as assigned.

The position serves as a contributing designer to the organization’s Internet and intranet sites as needed.

The position will require limited and some overnight travel throughout Arkansas.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

1. Extensive working knowledge of publication layout and design techniques.
2. Extensive experience in desktop publishing and computer operations.
3. The creative ability to conceive, adapt and implement effective graphic design elements within communications programs.
4. Basic writing skills, including the use of proper grammar and style, and editing skills a plus.
5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
6. Experience in agency and vendor relations.
7. Ability to utilize photography equipment to produce effective photographs.
8. Ability to work in teams, both as a team member and as a team leader.
9. Ability to organize, set priorities and produce under pressure.
10.Willingness to travel and work irregular hours.
11.A broad understanding of the health care system in Arkansas and our Plan's role in it a plus.

Minimum Job Requirements

1. A Bachelor's degree in graphic arts, graphic design, communications, public relations, marketing, advertising or a related field and  experience in one of these fields; or in the absence of a Bachelor's degree in one of these fields, experience in one of these fields.

2. Experience in the design/production of publications, including layout, design, writing, editing, photography and photo scanning - with working knowledge of printing techniques and typography.

3. Experience in the development of advertising campaigns (including familiarity with print, outdoor, radio and television, concept and copywriting) or marketing materials production, as well as experience in the concept and design of logos and logotypes.

4. Training in desktop publishing with emphasis on major software programs used in word processing and publication design, with proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel software.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES OR ACCOUNTABILITIES (Essential Functions of Job)
1. Graphic design responsibilities for product and services brochures, flyers, PowerPoint presentations, forms, Benefits Summaries, sales proposals, renewals, etc.; and for Advertising, Public Relations and Retail marketing design projects including print ads, banners, signage, invitations, etc.
2. Design support of other division advertising and communication activities, as assigned.
3. Design support for special projects, as assigned.
4. Special design assignments in support of other enterprise affiliates and divisions.
5. Serve as an enterprise photographer on occasion at special events and celebrations.
